My family has a tradition of watching The Passion every year on Good Friday, with the exception of Ness, Who dislikes the movie due to it’s “Sequences of Graphic Violence". I don’t blame her.
I like it for its:
The Passion is one movie you cannot watch, get scared and then write it off with an “Oh, it didn’t/doesn’t really happen.” Quite the opposite.
Mel Gibson’s brainchild garnered $624 million worldwide. A gigantic feat for a “Religious” movie.
I get the biggest kick out of the fact that The Passion beat (significantly) The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, itself a worldwide record-beater. Even the Pope remarked after seeing The Passion,
“It is as it was.”
I would tend to agree with him.
I thought up a funny joke today:
What do you call an Atheist?
…A bad statistician.
It’s true, there is no way that you can logically state that the world evolved by chance; a chance in trillions! Nope. Jest can’t.
Back to The Passion. This is the best two hour movie you can watch, you won’t regret it, it will be time well spent.
Besides its cautionary rating, The Passion is probably the ONLY R rated flick you should consider letting your kids watch, not to mention yourself. Besides a loss of appetite post-watching, kids might be able to handle it. Use ‘Parental Guidance’. If you’ve got sensitive children (who doesn’t) the part to skip would be the “whipping” scene. Discretion advised.
Also, there is a Definitive recut Edition which edits the worst 15 minutes of the movie and also includes some kid friendly sing-alongs in the “special features” section. Just kidding on that last one.
The Passion of the Christ is THE best movie that portrays the life of Christ ever! Way to go!
